We started our monthly newsletter for a few friends who were asking us about how the book writing project was going. We had fun with it, making it somewhat tongue in cheek and sharing some of our crazier experiences.
It’s grown!
I was reflecting ahead of this months publication how it’s grown. Hopefully we have kept the tone, the informality, candidness, and humor. It’s tempting to change how you write something when it goes to a bigger audience. But of course, the reason it probably is appealing is how it was originally constructed.
Perhaps not a bad lesson in keeping true to who you are. Authenticity versus the temptation to ‘professionalize.’ But is bigger always better and does slickness start to erode identity?
Fortunately … we tend to keep one another rather grounded on these things. This is where it’s good to debate and constructively challenge one another.
So thanks Helmut Schuster for asking the awkward questions and making me pause occasionally. I’d otherwise be a mile or two down perhaps the wrong road!
